Lost Angel: The Genius of Judee Sill, a documentary about the gifted Singer-Songwriter, was just released in theaters after its premiere at DOC NYC in 2022. The documentary was co-directed by Film alumni Andy Brown '91 and Brian Lindstrom '91 and was produced by Lindstrom and fellow alumnus Peter Kenney '90.
Set in Los Angeles in the 1970s, the film draws an intimate portrait of the unique Judee Sill, from a troubled adolescence to her rise in the music world and tragic early death. After participating in an armed robbery and a stint in prison, Sill went from living in her car to a deal with Asylum Records and, in just two years, to being featured on the cover of Rolling Stone. With the help of Sill herself, as well as American musicians like Linda Ronstadt, Jackson Browne, Graham Nash, David Geffen, and JD Souther, the film explores the impact of Sill's musical style on a new generation of singer-songwriters.
