spooky haunted house with "gasp" written in front of it

Columbia University School of the Arts is proud to present the production of GASP!, by Anna Rebek '20

Held on the Bloomingdale’s campus over the course of a 48-hour retreat; eight families, couples, and participants engage in role-playing and writing exercises in order to try and increase their positive communication skills through the lens of horror. Just as the group is coming closer to achieving their communication goals, a journal beckons from the past, and they find out there’s a sinister history to this place. As they continue to dig, they awaken an ancient evil lurking underneath that has an appetite… Truth and communication are put to the ultimate test if they are to work together and make it out alive.

About the Director

Anna Rebek is the writer/director of GASP! and is currently in her third year of study as an MFA Directing candidate at Columbia University School of the Arts. During her course of study she has been guided by the auspicious Anne Bogart and the scholastic Brian Kulick to grind her teeth in some of the most challenging material out there, including full productions of Uncle Vanya, MARAT/SADE, and The Tempest. Favorite professional projects include The Two Character Play at the 13th st repertory theatre, Mary V at the nyc fringe, King Lear at the Brick, and the Gasp! Workshop at Dixon Place. Recent regional work includes assisting/observing Saheem Ali on Anne Washburn’s SHIPWRECK at Woolly Mammoth. This spring she will assist Pirronne Yousefzadeh on Vietgone at the Geva Theatre. Anna is thrilled to feature some of her favorite New York writers in her GASP! script, which is filled with their bewitching stories. She hopes you’ll join us in meeting a Lovecraftian world in her thesis, GASP!
