We are delighted to announce the return of Columbia Selects—our storied alumni reading series—to the KGB Bar for the 2023–24 season!

Michael Baruch '18 is a poet from Maryland, currently living in Brooklyn. At various points over the last decade he has been employed as a financial reporter, a yoga teacher, a performance typewritist, a cold caller, a bookseller, an influencer's assistant, and an investment banker. His poems have appeared in dirt child, talking about strawberries all of the time, and tuff poetry.

Matthew Gilbert’s '12 work has appeared in Narrative Magazine, PANK, Sugar House Review, Flyway, Redivider, and elsewhere. They live in Connecticut, and measure the general success of life by the ratio of trees to people wherever they happen to be.

Yardenne Greenspan' 12 is a writer and Hebrew translator born in Tel Aviv and based in New York. She was a regular contributor to Ploughshares from 2016 to 2023. Her writing has been featured in Literary Hub, Haaretz, Words Without Borders, Asymptote, Two Lines, and Apogee, among other publications. Her translations have been published by Restless Books, St. Martin’s Press, Akashic, Syracuse University, New Vessel Press, Amazon Crossing, and Farrar, Straus & Giroux. Her translation of The Memory Monster by Yishai Sarid was a 2020 New York Times Notable Book. She has an MFA from Columbia University and lives in New York City.

What is Columbia Selects? Columbia Selects is an alumni reading series hosted by the Columbia MFA Writing Program. In recent years, many of our featured writers have achieved critical and commercial success. This is your chance to glimpse who you'll be reading in 2025!
